Identify your niche
Online influence is a vital component of success as a speaker. Learn how to expand your reach with one of the world’s most influential leadership coaches.

If you look at today’s most successful speakers, you’ll see that they all have one thing in common:

A large social media following.

This makes sense, as social media platforms are a perfect way to grow your influence and attract people from all over the world. Naturally, this means more opportunities to grow your speaking business and live the lifestyle of a true influencer.

Now, your social media presence is all about expressing yourself and building your personal brand. You get to showcase your work and the impact you have on people’s lives. You can also make strong emotional connections that naturally encourage people to listen to everything you have to say.

So, how can you achieve this degree of social media success?

Let’s find out!

1. Identify Your Niche

Many speakers get personal branding wrong.

You can’t just try to emulate successful influencers and beat them at their own game.

This rarely works. And if you think about it, it’s easy to see why.

Why would somebody follow an influencer who imitates a big-shot speaker? People would much rather work with those who have established their credibility and authority.

For this reason, it’s never a good idea to go out there and try to be the next Tony Robbins or Gary Vee.

You just have to be yourself. And your job is to introduce something new and push it until it becomes the next big thing.

To do this, you must first find your niche.

Rather than focusing on the whole market, choose one segment – the people who share your passion.

2. Solicit Feedback and Respond to It

You’re getting into the market to serve your audience. Because of this, you must care about what they think of you.

Of course, it’s easy to receive praise. But when it comes to negative feedback, not everyone knows how to use it to their advantage.

What’s worse, many people have a tendency to take it personally. They may even get angry because someone doesn’t share their opinion.

You can’t become an influencer with this mindset.

Instead, you must take negative feedback as an endless source of motivation to get better. Accept that you’ll never be perfect, which is actually excellent news. It means that you can always keep growing.

3. Build Your Brand with Purpose

Savvy business people take a strategic approach to branding. They cover every angle of their brand’s business and go above and beyond to build and maintain a stellar reputation.

Unfortunately, many wannabe-influencers ignore personal branding. They mistakenly think that it’ll just happen, without any effort on their part to influence the process.

If you take this approach to your personal brand, you’re not going to get far. Even if you do reach your desired level of influence, there’s a good chance that you’ll collapse under the pressure.

For this reason, think of yourself as a business. Take a strategic approach to brand planning and management and you’ll have a strong foundation to build your influence on.

4. Be of Service to Those Around You

When you become an influencer, people will look up to you. They’ll seek your help and advice. And it’s your duty to be of service to those who need you.

This doesn’t always mean speaking at conferences or offering personal consultations. It means using your gift and influence to make others’ lives better whenever you get the chance.

5. Socialise Online

Believe it or not, there are speakers don’t use social media for what it is. They only look at it as a marketing platform for growing their influence. In other words, they often overlook the “social” aspect.

This is a mistake that can allow opportunities to pass you by.

Social media serves the purpose of connecting people, not creating one-sided relationships. To truly grow your following and influence, you must engage with people and let them see you as a real person – not just a brand.

By offering value free of charge, you show people that you’re not doing it all for yourself. Your goal is to connect with them and provide help, even if you’re not getting anything in return. Your audience will feel the need to reciprocate. Furthermore, many of them will be motivated to become your raving fans.

This is how you can build strong connections online and a community of people who want to hear everything you have to say.

6. Be Ready to Commit

It’s easy to think that influencers with hundreds of thousands of followers are somehow better than you. They’re booked left and right, thanks to having all those fans and followers.

You, on the other hand, may be struggling to get your personal brand off the ground. No matter what you do, you’re not getting anywhere near the same traction.

However, it’s worth remembering that online influence and success don’t happen overnight. It requires a great deal of time and effort, and you must be willing to delay gratification until later.

The good news is that there’s a lot you can do to speed up the process.

None of this happens on its own. Success may be waiting for you, but you won’t get there unless you work for it. Stay committed and take it one step at a time.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race

One thing we know about social media is that an overnight phenomenon can end as quickly as it began. Viral trends have a short lifespan. It’s best to stay away from them. What you want to do is stick around long enough to build lasting influence. This requires a strategic approach.

Whatever you do, don’t try to rush anything. Take it slow and make sound decisions as you work your way up the social media rankings.
